Straws are not only used for takeout, offices, banquets, family entertainment, etc., but can also be used for drinking coffee, alcohol, soy milk and other beverages. Plastic straws are cost-effective and easy to use, making them the first choice for many people. However, plastic straws are very toxic in the soil. It is difficult to degrade and causes great harm to marine life. Straw manufacturers use green and environmentally friendly PLA degradable straws to replace common plastic straws. So what are the advantages of PLA degradable straws compared with plastic straws?
PLA (polylactic acid) is a new type of biodegradable material. The production method is: using renewable plant resources (cassava, corn and other crops) to extract starch, the starch raw material is saccharified to obtain glucose, and then the glucose is metabolized and fermented by bacteria to produce high-purity lactic acid, and then high-purity lactic acid is obtained through a synthetic method. The molecular weight polymerized lactic acid is then processed and shaped to make a variety of biodegradable straws with good performance.
PLA straws have good biodegradability and can be degraded to generate CO2 and H2O. They do not pollute the environment and can meet the needs of industrial composting. The straws extruded at high temperature have good thermal stability and good solvent resistance. The gloss, transparency and feel of the products can replace petroleum-based products. All the physical and chemical indicators of the products can comply with local food safety regulations. Require. Therefore, it has a wide range of applications and can basically meet the needs of most drinks on the market.
PLA straws have good moisture-proof and airtight properties and are stable at room temperature, but they will automatically decompose when the temperature is higher than 45°C or under the influence of oxygen and microorganisms. Pay special attention to the temperature during product transportation and storage. Long-term high temperatures will cause PLA straws to deform.
Due to the limitations of raw material properties, PLA straws cannot be used for hot drinks during use. They are more suitable for cold drinks. I believe that with the continuous improvement and innovation of technology in the future, straw products that are both high temperature resistant and environmentally friendly will be gradually developed.
